" A former Beverly Hills, Calif., liposuction doctor used fat from his patients to create biodiesel fuel, an investigation discovered.

The strange origin of the fuel Craig Alan Bittner used to power his Ford sport utility vehicle and his girlfriend's Lincoln Navigator was revealed during a state public health department investigation into allegations that he allowed his girlfriend and his assistant to perform unlicensed surgeries at the clinic, Forbes.com reported Tuesday.

The liposuction practice, Beverly Hills Liposculpture, closed its doors in November.

- "The vast majority of my patients request that I use their fat for fuel -- and I have more fat than I can use," Bittner wrote on his defunct Web site, lipodiesel.com. "Not only do they get to lose their love handles or chubby belly but they get to take part in saving the Earth."

Forbes said California law forbids the use of human medical waste to power vehicles.

Several former patients have filed lawsuits against the doctor, claiming he allowed his girlfriend and assistant to perform procedures, causing mistakes that left the patients disfigured, said attorney Andrew Besser, who represents three of the former patients.

However, Bittner left the country after closing his office in November. He wrote on his clinic's Web site that he was moving to South America to do volunteer work in a clinic." U-(
